In chapter eighteen of Joshua, we are on the scene where the Canaanites have been driven out and and the Israelites have taken the land, which is the land of Israel. After Canaan was subdued before them, Joshua distributed as an inheritance the land between the tribes of Israel, with each tribe being given their portion of the land by lot. The only tribe that did not receive an inheritance was the tribe of Levi, for the priesthood of the Lord was their inheritance. Before all of Israel’s inheritance was distributed in chapter 18, Joshua tells the seven tribes that had not received their portion of the land to pick out three men from each tribe, survey the land, divide it into seven parts, then return to Joshua. Joshua then brought the seven divided parts of the land before the Lord in order to hear from God as to how the seven parts would be accorded to the seven tribes.

The Israelites were promised an earthly heritage by being given the promised land, a land flowing with milk and honey. David in the Psalms takes God’s testimonies as a heritage forever. God’s heritage is also seen as a form of protection from enemies, as is said in Isaiah 54:17 where scripture reads “No weapon formed against you shall prosper. And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.
應許之地是以色列人所得的地上的產業，一個流奶與蜜之地。大衛在詩篇裡說神的法度是永遠的產業。神的保護也是一種產業的形式，以賽亞書54:17寫：「凡為攻擊你造成的器械，必不利用；凡在審判時興起用舌攻擊你的，你必定他為有罪。這是耶和華僕人的產業，是他們從我所得的義。這是耶和華說的。」
This chapter also serves as a reminder to every believer that God is our portion. Psalm 16:5-6 says “O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance.” And in Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Jeremiah in Lamentations 3:24 says “The Lord is my portion, says my soul, Therefore I hope in Him!”
這一章同時也是提醒每一個信徒，神是我們的產業。詩篇16:5-6說：「耶和華是我的產業，是我杯中的份，我所得的你為我持守。用繩量給我的地界坐落在佳美之處，我的產業實在美好！」詩篇73:26說：「我的肉體和我的心腸衰殘，但神是我心裡的力量，又是我的福分，直到永遠。」耶利米在耶利米哀歌說：「耶和華是我的份，因此我要仰望祂。」
As born again Christians, our eternal heritage is in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 1:11 says “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all this according to the counsel of His will. Colossians 1:12 says that our heavenly Father has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. Paul says later in his epistle to the Colossians that from the Lord, we will receive the reward of the inheritance; for we serve the Lord Christ. Peter says regarding this inheritance in 1 Peter 1:4 that it is incorruptible and undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for us. Our eternal inheritance in God’s kingdom is through our faith in Jesus Christ. Being born again, we have the right to be children of God. As God’s children, we have our eternal inheritance in His kingdom.
我們是重生的基督徒，永恆的產業是在基督耶穌裡。以弗所書 1:11說道：「我們也在他裡面得了基業，這原是那位隨己意行做萬事的，照著他旨意所預定的。」歌羅西書 1:12說，我們的天父叫我們能與眾聖徒在光明中同得基業。保羅也在寫給歌羅西的書信裡提到，因為我們服事主基督，我們將得到產業成為獎賞。彼得在彼得前書1:4也提到關於這產業，不能朽壞、不能玷汙、不能衰殘、為我們存留在天上的。我們永遠的產業是在神的國裡，透過對耶穌基督的信心。重生之後，我們有成為神兒女的權柄，身為神的兒女，我們在祂的國度裡有永遠的基業。
Let’s pray. Lord, we look to you. You are where our help comes from. You are our portion. We live our lives set apart for you, to do your will, on earth as it is in heaven. Let us exercise meekness today, with gentleness, bearing with one another in love. As it says in your Word, that the meek will inherit the earth. Let us put on the character of the new man, not being puffed up with pride, but one who is peaceable and one who shows humility to others. In Zephaniah 2:3, it says that when we seek righteousness and seek humility, we will be hidden in the Day of the Lord’s anger. And that you know the thoughts you think toward us, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give us a future and a hope. Thank you Lord. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
